Don't pick what you like - it doesn't matter and it's almost always wrong.

Instead look for what God likes.

The scriptures show what God likes for worship.

He has a heavenly temple with heavenly worship and we get glimpses of it in the story, visions as He rolls the curtain of reality back.

He promised to recreate the world, and return this earth into Eden as His new temple, united us working and ruling together with Him.

Right now He brings that here in worship - intruding in from the end of time to this world, today, here and now.

So what church best reflects that heavenly worship - that sacred time and space where heaven meets earth?

You can open the scriptures and then lay out all the confessions and statements of faith to see which is closest.

You can look for the marks of a church - Word Rightly Proclaimed (Does preaching shout out Christ's alien righteousness?); Sacrament Rightly Administered (Does it unite you with Christ's alien righteousness in Baptism and the Eucharist?); Discipline (Does it draw a line to protect word & sacrament?).

Here's a shortcut. Worship in a way that follows God's heavenly worship.

The Divine Liturgy is a form or structure that follows Christ's journey through the year and in each service as God washes and feeds us in Christ through word and sacrament. It's not just from the Bible or the ancient church, but from how God establishes worship in His heavenly temple.

In the Divine Service, God serves us here on earth just as He does in heaven. We even use the words He gives us to speak back to Him, following scripture. We move through a divine order of service, from invocation, through benediction, as Christ brings the heavenly temple to us through His person and work.

Look for a church where: God serves us in the Divine Service through the Divine Liturgy.

That means a church where we:

Celebrate the Holy Eucharist every Sunday and commune alongside the Invisible Church.

Pass through the Waters of Chaos & Salvation with the Baptismal Font at the Sanctuary's Entrance.

Respond with the Great Litany and Chant Psalms. Sing Biblical Canticles and the Ancient, Great Reformation, and Transcendent Modern Hymns.

Be "fed with your ears" [Luther] by Law & Gospel Preaching proclaiming Christ's Person & Work in Forensic Justification.

Rest in the renewing of your mind as Scripture interprets Scripture through Christ in His unfolding story.

Hear like ancient believers as Christ, the Word, explains all that Moses, the Prophets & all the Scriptures say concerning Him.

Receive the Body, Blood & Benefits of Christ as He personally unites us with Himself and His imputed merit.

Worship with the Invisible Church, alongside Adam & Eve, Abraham & Sarah, Peter & Paul, Luther & glorified loved ones.

Participate in the Cosmic Drama as Sacred Time & Space meet.

Rest in the recreation of the new heavens & earth intruding into our world as Heaven meets Earth.
